Children who simply knew

This article is about two twin who were both born biologically as boys. However, at a young age one recognized that he was actually a girl, while the other maintained his biologically assigned gender as a boy.

  1. I love this article and am thinking about using it next term....The only concern I have is that articles like this one continue to treat gender as "binary" -- as if there are two distinct genders only, and everyone is really either one or the other. There is no questioning of Western notions about gender, which are only one way of seeing it, as you all are learning.

  2. I think this is a great article and i definately agree with the idea of it presenting gender as either being male and female especially, because we talked about how these definitions are socially constructed and limited in who they include.

Also, i am never surprised by how aware children are of themselves and it really upsets me to think of how much time we spend telling them they are wrong about these sorts of things instead of just listening to them.
